Removals
We specializes in large dangerous removals in difficult locations. We use industry standard rigging techniques to safely dismantle and lower limbs to the ground. We utilize cranes, aerials lifts, and other state of the art equipment when necessary to provide our services as safely, effectively, and cost efficient as possible.
Trim/Pruning
Many believe trimming and pruning are essentially the same thing, and while during either process you may choose to remove a few of the same branches, their objectives are different.
Trimming is involves removing excess branches that typically don’t affect the health of the tree. This process is used to maintain the size and shape of a tree and to encourage a more aesthetic look. How frequently this is done is typically decided by the overall goal, species, and sometimes location of the tree.
Pruning on the other hand, is a more complicated process, and requires more knowledge and expertise. Pruning is focused on the overall health of the tree and to promote new growth. Dead and diseased branches will be removed, as well as any branches that are intersecting. Branches that are anticipated to become a problem in the near future will also be addressed. During this process, less is more as taking too much off can potentially cause damage and shock the tree, causing unwanted water sprouts. Typically, the tree will recover, but it is best to err on the side of caution. Depending on species, this process usually falls in the every 3-5 year frequency and sometimes sooner with younger trees.
In any case, we can help! Our team is knowledgable and experienced and can help you with your property goals and keep your trees health and aesthetics in check.
Topping
Topping a tree is a very controversial process in the tree industry. What is not debatable is that this practice is in no way healthy for a tree and will cause structural deficiencies. It involves removing large limbs all around the entire crown, leaving large open wounds in order to drastically reduce the size of a tree. In many cases, most if not all of the leaves are removed. Removing this much of a tree will, as stated before, send the tree into shock. Many will recover, but this does not mean damage was not done. Without leaves, the sun can scald the open wounds as it regrows, and the shock will cause the new branches to grow much faster, causing them to be structurally weaker and more prone to breaking down the road as well as invite disease.
Most of the time we are able to healthily reduce the weight on concerning branches, and even reduce the crown without topping and affecting the natural shape and health of the tree. We assess on a case by case basis, and in very rare instances such as severe storm damage, topping may be still be an option, but please be aware of the risks of disfiguration mentioned, and also the potential for sudden disease or even death of the tree. Also, something to keep in mind is that once topped, the tree should routinely be topped every few years to prevent safety concerns.
Stump Grinding
Once a tree is removed, all that is left is the part that is still in the ground, called the stump, which is connected to the root crown. We typically grind the main stump area up to 18″ deep or until no more heartwood is detected. Sometimes the root crown grows in a way that some of the roots are visible above the soil. We will also ground these areas so that there will be no more visible indication that a tree was once there. The root crown can be very large, sometimes even larger than the canopy, and while we don’t chase these underground roots all over your yard, if specified we can grind certain areas nearby for ease of future replanting.
Tree Care & Maintenance
One of the most tell tale signs of an unhealthy tree is a canopy that does not appear bright and full.
Unhealthy and diseased trees are unfortunately a huge problem in the north east and virtually everywhere. Insects such as the emerald ash borer and gypsy moth, and a wide variety of different funguses can negatively affect the health of your tree. Other issues that pose a threat are over watering, under watering, and soil problems causing a lack of nutrients. Most often, different species are susceptible to their own source of ailments.
We can quickly diagnose and prescribe treatments specific for the different species of trees on your property. We use various treatments such as trunk injections, soil treatments and fertilizing, canopy spraying, root correction, and other industry techniques. We can also tend to old wounds the tree may have experienced with various cabling, bracing, and sealing techniques.
Coupling these treatments with healthy recommended pruning practices, and your trees should be happy and healthy for years to come.
Landscaping
While we do specialize in trees, we also offer various landscaping services such as brush and yard clean up, hedge/bush trimming and removal, and delivery and planting.
We are even equipped to do some smaller junk removal, fence removal/reinstallation projects, and mulching projects.
For full transparency, some of these services are not our main focus, so if it is a larger landscaping project that would include hardscaping, we recommend going with a company that is more catered to these solutions.
