Tree Care Questions
How do I identify what trees are on my property?
Identifying a tree can be achieved by a observing a wide array of factors, both by themselves and simultaneously. Some attributes to look at are the bark, leaves or needles, flowers, and size and shape. Here is a good article we wrote to help to identify common north eastern trees. If still unsure, you can always give us a call or send us a picture and we would be happy to help!
My tree lost is leaves, what is wrong with it?
This may just be a normal part of your trees cycle. On the other hand, if it is losing its leaves at an inappropriate time, it could have external factors causing it stress such as drought, pests, or damage. Our team can help diagnose and prescribe a treatment plan.
When should I have my trees trimmed/pruned?
Believe it or not, the absolute best time for most trees to be pruned is in winter! Pruning while the tree is dormant promotes the most growth. Spring and fall, while slightly less ideal are still acceptable. With all of that being said, there is never a bad time to have dead branches removed, and some summer trimming is still acceptable with caution. Take a look here for even more information on the topic.
Are spotted lantern flies killing my trees?
Based on the studies as of right now, only the tree of heaven, grapevines, and black walnut saplings are at risk. Assuming your tree is in good health, the lantern flies should have no adverse effect on them. Either way, they are still invasive and should be killed when seen.
Can I save my ash tree from the EAB (Emerald Ash Borer)?
In our professional opinion, sooner or later the ash trees in our area will all suffer the same fate. Once infected with EAB, a mature ash tree with a round a 50-60% reduction in its canopy is likely no longer salvageable. If your ash tree still has a decent amount of canopy left, we do have treatments available that can keep it alive for years to come, but understand that this is a yearly treatment and if not constantly maintained, the tree will redevelop the infection and die.
Ash trees rapidly decline and very quickly become dangerous. It is best to have them removed promptly for the safety of your home, surroundings, and for the team tasked with taking them down.
Here’s an article on more information about the EAB.
